Beheading sounds dramatic, but it is a common succulent technique. It can help when a plant has stretched from low light, when you want a backup before summer, or when the top growth is healthier than the lower stem.
Use clean tools, make a confident cut, and let the cut surface dry before planting. Keep the cutting in bright shade with airflow while it roots, and avoid heavy watering too soon.
The remaining stem may also produce new shoots, so one plant can become both a rooted cutting and a regrowing base.
